“Treat your body like a temple, not a woodshed. The mind and body work together. Your body needs to be a good support system for the mind and spirit. If you take good care of it, your body can take you wherever you want to go, with the power and strength and energy and vitality you will need to get there.” – Jim Rohn
For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved playing sports. From learning to skate at 4 years old on the rink my dad made in our backyard, to learning to swing a bat (the big red plastic one), I’ve enjoyed many different sports over the years. I love the competition, being active, but most of all now, I love the community aspect of getting together with people and being part of a team. I’m missing that right now, but I know it won’t be too long before I’m back on the course, the courts, and the ice. My goal is to play and be competitive for as long as I possibly can. But this doesn’t come without hard work, intentionality and calling on others to help guide me along the way. I love the African proverb which says, “If you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together.”
So today, I want to introduce you to my health team. I’ve realized the last several years these aren’t only available to professional athletes or the rich and famous. You just need to know what you are looking for and ask for help.
Chris Schild is a personal trainer and we met many years ago when we played together at a golf outing. We hit it off, kept in touch, and eventually he asked me to help him with a couple of business needs he had. After my dad passed away and I turned 40, I had a strong desire to take my health and fitness to another level and Chris was the first person I called. I told him I didn’t have a lot of money and might not be the best client, but he laughed and came out to the house to discuss what my goals and objectives were. Basically, we agreed I wanted to move better and feel better, and we started working together right away. Chris came to my house and showed me how to use the things I had, along with a couple of bands an exercise ball and a couple of disks, to strengthen and condition my body. He would take me through a workout and then I would do it myself all month, but he checked in twice a week to make sure I was staying on track. Accountability was key. Right away I started noticing a difference in my energy level, how I was hitting a golf ball, and how I felt in my own skin. Chris and his wife Jenny even had a nutrition class which my family attended, to help us make sure we were fueling our body with the right foods and beverages. In August, it will be eight years we’ve been working together! Calling and working with Chris has become one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. He even included me in a video for their business, check it out:
If you don’t have someone like Chris in your life, I strongly encourage you to contact him, or someone like him. The best way to meet someone like this is through an introduction or referral from a friend or family member you trust who has had a great experience like I have. Take control of your health and your life today!
